| Brainstorming Oliver Ideas |

Okay, f-list. I need ideas and/or suggestions.
Two beloved friends of mine have invited me to stay with them in Vancouver for Christmas. I'd be on that 14-hour road trip in a heartbeat, except for Mister Oliver, who cannot come with but needs to be taken care of.
Normally, I'd ask the lady who lives in the white house to take care of him, but she's out of town for Christmas. I'd ask my other pitbull-loving friend Leslie to do it, but she has a broken leg. I'd take him to be boarded, except a.) I'm guess most places are full up at this point, and b.) Oliver hasn't had one of the vaccines that you're supposed to give dogs if they're being boarded (for kennel cough or something), and you have to get it at least a week in advance.
So: does anyone have any creative ideas? I realize that it's probably not going to happen, but I figured I'd put it out there just in case.

| Music Video of the Day: Beyoncé, "Video Phone" feat. Lady Gaga |

I think it's really interesting that the two reoccurring images in this video are cameras and guns. It reminds me of a bunch of photographic theory that I had to read in college where we talked about the concept of photographer/videographer as predator.
Did I mention that in addition to being in love with Lady Gaga, I'm in love with Beyoncé as well? They're both so fierce.

"His big philosophy is that if you want to control your dog you have to become the pack leader. In my house, the cat is the pack leader. You don't want to mess with her. You know why they don't have a show called the Cat Whisperer? It's because that host is dead."

| Truth is Never That Simple |
[21 Dec 2009|12:32pm] |
Andromeda is a near-pragmatic wonderland. It took me so long to realize it. Faced with corporate dominance, the threat of the Abyss and weak/uncaring Gods, the Wayists only provide an alternative to Nietzschean dreamlessness that negates the human spirit (and the need to self-fucking-defense). More than that, they fear if they do not deny themselves they will become like the Nietzscheans, that we'll all be like them. Truth is, again and again, shown to be subjective in word and deed (in the power to hold what you want).
Dylan represents the human spirit upheld and in action but yet his weakness is the fear of acknowledging that true subjectivity. He has his truth in The Commonwealth because he needs it in order to feel as if it is all worth it, but why can not the people he is fighting for be the worth for him? This is my question. He is instrumental, a special self-chosen chosen, in creating a way for many to prosper in the universe which he inhabits. He is the iconic hero!
The series is plagued by indecision. It justifies itself by citing that we can never know the universe and yet we need to pretend that we do. As if there was anything wrong with relying on the knowledge that we have now (which the series does but ceases to do so when it becomes unpleasant). It neglects its own premise that wealth in its universe can only satisfy but a few and that is why the Commonwealth is necessary because it sticks to the notion that selfishness is to blame when it is selfishness that provides the motivation to Commonwealth. So the character of Dylan represents a dream which the Wayists deny but leaves that dream supported by weakness.
The reason, of course, is that most people embody such weakness. If they left that version of the dream behind they would have only themselves to motivate. This being perhaps too much to hope for... But, you know, this philosophical haven still rises above almost all other fictions and ideologies out there. Its own height makes it Titanesque. This is why I appreciate it so! People in general may never reach perfection as Everything We Know shows us.
If we do not keep our essential selves in mind how will we ever recall what we're fighting for. Maybe most people require a different focus but that only complicates that ever-present need to remember where we come from. Let go of the fear.

Dear Santa...
Dear Santa,
This year I've been busy!
In October I bought porn for nakedgunchick (-10 points). In November I bought porn for mr_lascivious (10 points). Last Thursday I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). Last Tuesday I ruled Duluth, Minnesota as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). In July I committed genocide... Sorry about that, losing_jason (-5000 points).
Overall, I've been naughty (-4299 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!
Sincerely, consortofvenus |

| This is what happens when Denise and I discuss IM smilies |
[16 Dec 2009|03:59pm] |
Brax: So you can be The One Ring and I can be one of the less important secondary ones Brax: She who controls The One, controls them All Brax: I find it also apt that the ring bearers and rings were cast as villains (via weakness), those harbingers of power, but it coincides so well with BDSM dynamics Brax: Thus, responsible indulgence Brax: Not that this is what the author had in mind. Frodo was a Jesus figure who was the only one who could carry the ring but meant to destroy it.
Note: He might have been, now that I think about it, a disciple of the Jesus figure Gandolf. The wizard did, after all, rise from the dead clothed in white.
I have also only seen the movies because I hate the books except for The Hobbit.
ETA: Me on Loki from another conversation...
Brax: Or, actually, Loki is a lot like the universe at large Brax: A force of truth Brax: People are always running away from the truth and the reality, much as they would run from Loki Brax: Truth and reality have their unpleasant sides and pleasant ones. The truly enlightened take it for what it is. I read something by a scholar of Northern European religion and he flat out rejected that interpretation because it was disrespectful to the god He refuses to understand, though he considers himself so much more enlightened than the other scholars, that the god Loki was a kind of two-sided coin born of the his precious fool Gods. Theists are arrogant by definition. Brax: Emotional need is the reason. They speculate on things beyond evidence and call it truth. Brax: I don't think that atheists are arrogant at all Brax: Numerous authors of theology admit lack of evidence and emotional justification
